The exhibition in Portugal was one of the most complete presentations done in recent times. It started with 5 of my artists going over with me to perform under the banner "Botanica All-Stars". Each artist came from a different ethnic background; Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Japan and Jamaica. I then created a series of 5 protest posters, each one representing a struggle or statement varying from police brutality to U.S. intervention in Colombia and Dominican Republic. I then took my 5 posters and then remixed them to create 5 more posters, for a total of 10 posters. After the posters were finished, i created 5 paintings, translating the posters into hand painted form.
Then after that was completed, I took the graphic from the posters and scans and photos of the paintings, and created a 45 minute visual presentation on a DVD. This visuals were shown on a tv moniter in a glass case, flat screen monitor on the wall and projected onto a wall outside the building that could be seen from a window inside the exhibition.
Finally, I screen printed some designs onto military grade rip-stop camo material, and I shipped to DJ Killer in Osaka, Japan. She made 2 Botanica All-Stars military fatigues inspired by my designs. Her concept was clothing to be worn while bombing the city at night with spray cans with detachable spray can pockets, etc. Later Killer and I DJ's and the MC's took to the stage while the visuals were projected in the background. And then the living exhibition was complete. Botanica All-Stars!
